How to check journal ranking in scopus

To check the ranking or metrics of a journal in Scopus, you can use the Scopus Journal Metrics tool called SCImago Journal Rank (SJR). Here’s how to do it:

1. Visit the SCImago Journal & Country Rank Website:

2. Search for the Journal:

  • Use the search bar at the top of the page to enter the name of the journal.
  • You can also search by ISSN if you have it.

3. View the Journal’s SJR and Ranking:

  • After searching, the results will show the journal’s details, including its SJR (SCImago Journal Rank) score, which is a measure of its impact.
  • The results will also show the journal's ranking within its subject categories, usually displayed as quartiles (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4):
    • Q1: Top 25% of journals in the category
    • Q2: Between 25% and 50%
    • Q3: Between 50% and 75%
    • Q4: Bottom 25%

4. Explore Additional Metrics:

  • The SCImago website also provides other metrics such as Cites per Doc (a measure of the average citations per document) and H-Index (a measure of the journal's productivity and citation impact).
  • You can also view trends over time, subject categories, and other detailed information about the journal’s impact and ranking.

5. Use the Scopus Source List:

  • Alternatively, you can visit the Scopus Source List and search for the journal to view basic metrics, including its SJR.

By using these tools, you can determine the ranking and impact of a journal within its field, helping you assess its quality and relevance.
